The Visual Art Center (VAC) is a rigorous portfolio preparation program where students are challenged by working in a collective studio that thrives on collegiality and constructive criticism.. The VAC offers students a broad perspective of the visual arts and deepens their understanding of the opportunities for art-related careers through exposure to art history, contemporary artists and artwork. Students will discover how artists often work in collective studios and develop a collegial environment that thrives on giving and receiving constructive criticism. VAC students will synthesize and adapt approaches artmaking to develop a personal style and voice. They will present a personal exhibition and justify curatorial choices that communicate meaning. By the end of the program, students submit a portfolio of original work to meet the requirements for the AP Exam to demonstrate the competencies as identified by the College Board.
